Who operates Mazze
Mazze is a comic reader developed by Christopher Wilson. There is no Mazze account or developer-operated service that receives your library or reading activity. Mazze contains no analytics SDK, advertising identifier, tracking SDK or third-party crash-reporting service.
Data on your device
Mazze stores your library index, imported and downloaded comics, covers, reading progress, bookmarks, notes, reading sessions, queue, shelves, goals and settings on your device. Server passwords are stored in the iOS Keychain. Access to watched folders is retained using iOS file-access bookmarks.
Optional page upscaling runs on your device. Comic pages are not uploaded to an AI service.
Optional iCloud sync
iCloud sync is off until you enable it in Settings → Backup & Sync. When enabled, Mazze uses Apple CloudKit to store reading metadata in the private database associated with your Apple Account and sync it between your devices.
Synced metadata includes reading progress, bookmarks and notes, reading history, queue, shelves, goals, library organisation, download policies and reader preferences. Hashed account, source and book identifiers help match the same library across devices. Comic files, cover images, server passwords and downloaded file paths are not included in this sync.
Apple processes iCloud data under its own privacy policy and service terms. The developer does not receive a copy of your private iCloud reading database. iCloud sync uses Apple network services while Mazze is open or refreshing in the background; it does not use push notifications, and there is no Mazze-operated push server.
Your servers and file providers
When you add a Komga, Kavita or OPDS server, Mazze sends requests to that server and follows catalogue links to retrieve feeds, covers and comic files. Server credentials are used to authenticate with their configured origin. Komga can also receive reading progress. Your server operator may keep connection logs or other data under its own policies.
Watched folders and files selected through Files can use iCloud Drive, a NAS or another file provider such as Google Drive, Dropbox or OneDrive. That provider handles its own network connections and data under its own policy. Mazze copies imported comics into its local library and does not move or delete the originals in watched folders.
Local servers may use unencrypted HTTP. HTTPS protects data in transit and should be used whenever your server supports it. iOS transport-security rules restrict insecure connections.
Purchases
Mazze Complete is an optional one-time in-app purchase processed by Apple through StoreKit. The optional tip jar also uses Apple consumable in-app purchases. Tips are voluntary, do not unlock features and are separate from Mazze Complete. Mazze contacts Apple to load the product and check, purchase or restore access. The app stores purchase-entitlement status locally and shares that status with its widget. The developer does not receive your payment-card details. Apple handles payment and purchase records under its own policies.
System integrations and permissions
Local network permission allows connections to servers on your network. Notification permission is optional and is requested when you enable reading alerts or summaries. Those visible notifications are generated locally. Mazze does not register for remote push notifications of any kind.
Spotlight, widgets, Shortcuts and Live Activities can expose selected book titles, covers and reading progress on your device, including the Home Screen or Lock Screen. Mazze shares the metadata needed by its widget through a local app-group container.
Apple may process system diagnostics or device backups according to your Apple settings. If you email support or send diagnostic information, the information you choose to send is used to answer your request. Do not include server passwords or comic files unless needed and requested.
Retention, deletion and your choices
Local library data remains until you remove it or delete the app. Backups, exported files and original files outside the app are separate and remain wherever you saved them. Keychain items and Apple-managed backups can outlive an app installation.
Turning off iCloud sync stops further sync on that device; it does not erase metadata already stored in iCloud. Use Apple’s iCloud storage controls to manage stored app data. Turn sync off on every device before removing cloud data, because an enabled device can upload its local metadata again.
Deleting supported reading items while sync is enabled propagates those changes. Sync retains deletion markers to prevent older devices from restoring deleted items. Removing a server on one device does not erase reading history on your other devices.
You can export a local reading-data backup and choose where to save or share it. Comic files and server credentials are not included. The developer cannot retrieve or delete files on your servers, your file providers or your private iCloud database on your behalf.
Sharing and children
The developer does not sell personal data or use it for advertising or tracking. Data is transmitted only as described above to provide the features you use or respond to support requests. Mazze displays the comics you supply and has no social feed or public user-content service. The same privacy practices apply to all users, including children.
